Meriwether Lewis (1774-1809)

Captain of the expedition Lewis joined the Army in 1794. Then in 1801 Lewis was appointed as President Thomas Jefferson's private secretary. And then Jefferson chose Lewis to be commander of the expedition

William Clark (1770-1838)

home state = Virginia

After serving four years in the army in the Northwest territory with Meriwether Lewis, Clark resigned to help his family. And then rejoined the military, and was commisioned as a Second Lieutenant  as Meriwether lewis's second-in-command.

Sacagawea (1788-1812)

The wife of Charbonneau, a man hired to be an interpreter for the expedition, Lewis and clark soon relized that she spoke Shoshone, which would help them take to indian tribes for help. She served as a guide, survivalist, and an interpreter.
 

Nathaniel Pryor (1772–1831)

Was one of the "Nine Young Men from Kentucky," that Lweis recruited to serve in the Expedition, who were good hunters and had good survival skills. Lewis considered Nathabiel to be "a man of character and ability."
 

François Labiche

Francois was an experienced boatman and Indian trader. He also spoke English, French, and several Indian languages. Lewis and Clark met him in Kaskaskia, Illinois Territory. Francois accompanied Lewis to Washington after the expedition to interpret for Indian chiefs.

York was a slave inherited by William Clark. Being Clark's slave York followed Clark to Kentucky and then into the expedition. York carried a musket and did his dutied to support the expedition.

Pierre Cruzatte

Half French and half Omaha Indian, Blind in one eye and nearsighted in the other Cruzatte was master boatman and fiddle player. His fiddle playing often entertained the Corps of Discovery.
